Entity and Identity

As I worked as a speaker for Microsoft, people complained:

I only use 5% of Office, why should I pay for 100%?

I replied

Oh, that’s interesting. To determine a percentage, You need to know what is 100%.
I personally learn new about Office every week.
You seem to be more advanced than I am.

/context is king

People often use terms in the meaning of the context they originally understood.
Problem is, once You left this situation, a different context emerges.
Once people leave or join the scene, context changes.

Do they share the same understanding as You?
Are You right? Are they right?

What is right?

/Do I need everything?

It is not necessary to have complete understanding to benefit from wholistic approaches.

Questions of people help You identifying their mindset. From getting to know mindset, You can determine what is considered as right and where help is needed in understanding.

So, questions help:

  • Do we have it all?
  • Did we contact everybody?
  • Does somebody miss something?
  • Are we complete?
  • Did we got it?

/check Completeness, re-cognize Wholeness

You can determine whether something is complete by compairing to specification or the existing of some “spare” components like bits and bolts left over. Completeness can be determined on Your own, because everything is known in advance. It is only data – things that are related to the given context.

To determine the whole is much more difficult. The whole is more than sum of its parts, You may said once or twice.
The whole consist not only of parts (components), but also of their relationships to each other. Some of them are more relevant than others. Difficulty arises from the fact, You can determine only from aspecting afterwards.

Why? Existence and importance of relationships is a matter of subject to an individual, resonating with the environment. It can be guessed upfront – knowing is only possible by making transparent. By that, You proof the guess against the facts.
And facts are things that were made while data is what’s given.

/whatif there is a difference?

Are You sure about what You do?

  • What, if someone once declared in a different context?
  • What, if things changed and You do still the same?
  • What, if understanding is believed as implicit but is discrete and not transparent?

/What matters?

It is important to understand the necessities of a context.

Are You doing something repeatedly?
Is quality requested?
Is “quality” assured by completeness?

Are You doing something “one off”?
Is harmony and tension demanded in terms of beauty?
Is beauty assured by achieving wholeness?

Complete is about the totality of details.
Whole is about harmony of one suiting in relation to the environment.

Completeness is achieved by checking out entries in a list.
Wholeness is achieved by respecting the influences from within and outside.

Completeness can be reached, where results are specified.
Wholeness can be reached, where relationships are respected.

/So, what should I do?

Identify context first. Situations may be illusive.

The fact, You are familiar with people and environment does not necessarily result in familiarity with a topic.
The fact, You are able to perform a method does not necessarily mean it is fitting best in given context.
The fact, You understood the topic does not necessarily mean, everybody else did.

Assure fundaments by sharing recognition, before acting on beliefs.
Nonviolent communication will help You to save energy for the topics which really matter.

You get access to whatever I estimate being worth to share on my twitter-channel.

Life runs in circles. Some are smaller, some are bigger.
In the end, there is no end – only another beginning.

Talk to whom it may concern. And share what matters to You!
