Something has changed

Well, we live in a world of constant change. So far, so normal.
There is an enduring stream of changing odds and ends.
We are not very good in estimation of impact by these changes.

As Bill Gates said:
We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next ten. Don’t let yourself be lulled into inaction.

Some 15 years ago, Germany was the sick man of Europe. People laughed at us.
The US were the place to be. And London, also. They got the swing.

Then, something happened. I remember, I could not work at that day. Nobody around could work. We all watched TV without ability to process what we see. In 2001, some stupid idiots flew into well-known buildings and other people tried to hit other buildings in the US.

What happened?

In the late 19th century, Britannia ruled the waves. They were “very good in messing around other people’s history” as a British-Scottish colleague once sat to me.

That lead to difficulties, we still suffer from. Look to Africa and borders of some countries there. How stupid can You be?
And near east, middle east and Asia. Stability is something different.
Only China got managed to stand their ground by staying on their ground for thousands of years.
The wall did not work, but it is still impressive.

Well, time goes by, but some things did not change. The mess, Europe brought to the world in Vienna and Berlin, continued to get a catastrophe – two times.

After that, Europe finally got weak enough to unite within the European Union by making treaties instead killing each other’s. How could that be?

“Peace […] is only possible if all parties understand that nobody can win.”
9th Secretary-General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, recently in Munich

We got that, finally after 1945. That was the balance that gave us stability in the second half of last century.

Delusive peace

Troubles happened far away.
As the Europeans restored themselves as good as possible, the new “leader of the free world” messed around elsewhere. Some people believed they got empowerment to fight for the right. They found their grounds in

  • Korea
  • Cuba
  • Vietnam
  • Afghanistan
  • Middle America
  • Iraq
  • Syria
  • Ukraine
  • … not to be continued!

And suddenly, something has really changed.

All the time, the US dominated the terrain. They believed that they can always win the battle. No need to surrender.

And now: some people are not willing to accept change there. They dream of a state, that never existed. The greatness they once believed was there, was not their greatness.
It arose from suffering of others – far away.

But some stupid idiots invented this wired computer things back in the ’60ies. Another stupid idiot thought, it is better to navigate from one text fragment to the other by underlining and clicking. The same with images. Stupid!

And now? Everybody has the ability to inform about what might happening around us. It is really hard work, not to acknowledge the world outside.
And there is this person who got elected for building a wall.

Walls are insignia of weakness, boneheads!

Wake up!
Did not work for Rome, did not work in China, did not work in Germany.

As Winston said:
Americans Will Always Do the Right Thing — After Exhausting All the Alternatives.

Meanwhile, something extraordinary happened. After 75 years of relative stability, starting back in 1942, the title “Leader of the free world” was passed from the Presidents of the United States to the chancellor of the once ill men of Europe.

Can You believe that?
Millions died for this free world, endless suffering and one twittering building constructor ruined a 75-years-arisen status quo within nearly six months. Mad world.

Then this: China has overtaken the role as Germany’s biggest trading partner.

Well, OK. It was not happening overnight. It started back in 2008 or 2001 or Iraq or Afghanistan or Vietnam or somewhere else in the past …

We, again!

We are right in the middle, once again. Hopefully, we do better this time.
There are some things that make us hope and trust:

  • We gave ourselves the Grundgesetz
  • We made our peace with the frog eaters and founded this federation, the Brits do not want to share anymore – sad, but true.
  • We had this crazy man, sitting in Bielefeld and writing Zettels.
  • We proofed, revolutions can be made without weapons.
  • We can host world sport events without terrorists killing participants
  • We got humor – You need to understand.

/famous last words

Everything will be fine in the end. If it is not fine, it is not the end.
